Looking for something original? Got enough of socks, ties, candles and soap?
Here are some tips how to surprise your partner - in a good way!
Personal It is best to think about what your partner likes, then look for something appropriate. Possibly the best presents are those that reflect a particular event which is significant for your relationship.
Photos of you and your partner are always a good hint - they are something personal and nice souvenirs. Why not put together a nice album with some of the special moments you have shared during your time together. Or, if there is not enough material yet, find a beautiful picture frame - or even make one yourself.
Another romantic gift is to put together a CD with his/her favorite songs or even better YOUR song(s). And since it is creativity and originality that give a present the personal touch - try to create a special CD cover.
Traditional
Flowers, especially roses, are probably the most traditional romantic present. Why not have a bouquet delivered (out of the blue)?
Chocolates, especially heart-shaped ones, will always go down well. It is worth thinking about the packaging as well as the chocolates, though.
Jewelry is an alternative way of demonstrating appreciation for outward appearance. Certain types of jewelry are traditional for specific events (e.g. eternity ring), and different stones have different meanings, so pick an appropriate one, then tell your partner what it means when you give it to them.
Champagne is something you can share at home or in a romantic setting - how about a pair of glasses to go with it and arranging to drink it together on a hilltop or at a lake or another romantic place?
Underwear - what needs to be said? Not a present to buy on the first date! Wait at least until you know their size, or you could get yourself in serious trouble... As for style, well, it may be a compromise between what they like and what you like, but the former will be better received, and you'd probably rather your partner felt more relaxed.
Together
As simple as it sounds, the best present always is time - try to think of something the two of you could do together.
A balloon trip, a weekend away, theatre tickets, a romantic video, a sports event, even a bottle of champagne - all these gifts involve doing things together; and such gifts are in many ways the most romantic.
Why not spend the weekend at a spa hotel? There's nothing more relaxing than a jacuzzi session and a nice massage.
Is he a sports fan? Is she into cultural activities? Take him to a game of his favorite team! Invite her to a play! - even if this means that you will be bored for one and a half hours... Show some enthusiasm!
Go to the beach! To a fun park! To the zoo!
In case you think your low budget is a good excuse for not being romantic and attentive: you can always just prepare a romantic picnic in a park, at the lakeside, or even at home.
GOOD LUCK!
